Summary  of Employment Outlooks by Subsector

A table showing employment outlooks by sub-sector.  For the bio-economy as a whole, there was 4.3% increase in employment from 2019 to 2020. Employment is projected to rise to 208,000 employees by 2020, to 214,000 employees by 2024 and to 223,000 employees by 2029.  For the bio-health sub-sector, there was 6.8% increase in employment from 2019 to 2020. Employment is projected to rise to 124,000 employees by 2020, to 126,000 employees by 2024 and to 131,000 employees by 2029.  For the bio-industrial sub-sector, there was 4.3% increase in employment from 2019 to 2020. Employment is projected to rise to 44,000 employees by 2020, to 45,000 employees by 2024 and to 47,500 employees by 2029.  For the agri-bio sub-sector, there was 1.6% decrease in employment from 2019 to 2020. Employment is projected to drop to 26,000 employees by 2020, then rise to 29,000 employees by 2024 and to 30,000 employees by 2029.  For the bio-energy sub-sector, there was 4.7% decrease in employment from 2019 to 2020. Employment is projected to drop to 13,500 employees by 2020, rise to 14,000 employees by 2024 and then drop again to 13,500 employees by 2029.
