Innovation is the DNA of the biotechnology sector. As an industry, biotech misses out on reaching its full potential when pools of skilled talent, like new graduates and persons with disabilities, remain untapped. BioTalent Canada welcomes the collaboration with bio-economy firms and other stakeholders to make its wage subsidy programs a success.
Student Work-Integrated Learning Program
The Student Work-Integrated Learning Program is an initiative to increase the job-readiness of students registered in STEM or business programs at Canadian post-secondary institutions. The program consists of two components: co-op wage subsidies to a maximum of $7,000 and curricula enhancements to better align biotechnology programs at post-secondary institutions with the needs of Canada’s bio-economy.
The Science Horizons Youth Internship Program is a wage subsidy initiative to help recent graduates in science, technology, engineering, or mathematics (STEM) acquire work experience in STEM positions with environmental focus. The program provides up to a maximum of $15,000 in wage subsidies to help employers hire the talent they need and help recent STEM graduates gain skills to secure full-time employment in environmental STEM fields.
The Opportunities Fund wage subsidy program provides up to a maximum of $13,500 towards a salary as an incentive for bio-economy employers to hire, accommodate and train an employee with disabilities.
Career Focus Green Jobs
Career Focus Green Jobs is a wage subsidy program for employment opportunities that have a green mandate or any job with an employer that has an environmental focus. The program provides up to a maximum of $13,500 in wage subsidies to help employers hire the talent they need and help recent graduates initiate a career.
The Career Focus Program has now officially ended.
After successfully placing over 800 new graduates in their first biotech job since 2005, BioTalent Canada’s Career Focus Wage Subsidy Program is now closed. BioTalent Canada is pleased to have partnered with the Government of Canada to help bio-economy employers hire the talent they need and for recent graduates to gain the work experience they require.
